8:45 - 10:00 Roundtable 1 -  Writing Process, Blogging Process

Blogging is, at least for the moment, about reading and writing. (We'll get Chris Lydon and Harold Gilchrist out here next time to tell us about the non-written future.) Our sponsor, the Bay Area Writing Project, and other educational leadership organizations, have learned a good deal about writing as a process in the last 30 years. Does blogging change what we know about writing? How does "blogging as a process" change our practice and teaching of "writing as a process?" In this roundtable, well-known and not so well-known bloggers share their writing discipline, the ways in which readers find them, and the unique aspects of blogging as a writing practice.

Facilitated by Paul Allison, conversation partners will include Mark Bernstein, Phil Wolf, Nathan Edelman and Patrick Delaney. (With kudos to the distant 'potential' partners who weren't able to confirm in time.)

10:00- 10:05 GAST announcements

10:05 - 10:15 BOF Announcements

10:15 - 10:30 Break

10:30--11:30 BOF Gatherings

"Birds of a feather" informal gatherings on any topics suggested by participants and of interest to others. Suggestions for BOF session can be posted on line, at the Saturday reception, and during Sunday morning coffee time. There should be ample space, with internet connections, for several sessions.

11:30 - 12:30 Lunch

12:30 - 2:00 Roundtable 2  "Blogging in the classroom, lab, library and school"

Phil Wolf says, "Thousands of teachers are using blogs; let's share the best of what they have learned." Well, maybe not thousands. No matter. Thousands soon enough. In this roundtable, veteran blogging teachers will share some of their explorations, successes, and challenges in using blogs to teach and learn. We'll try for a full range of grade level, subject matter, special needs, and pedagogical approaches. And we'll include tech labs, libraries and school offices. If we're lucky, we'll have some teacher / student work to look at while discussing verbal performance, learning styles, collaboration and social skills.

Facilitated by Terry Elliott. Conversation partners will include Will Richardson, Karen Claxton, Paul Allison, Christopher Kelly and Tim Lauer.

2:00 - 2:15 Break

2:15 - 3:45 Roundtable 3 "Blogging in the district, campus and organization"

This roundtable looks at blogging as it is, and might be, integrated beyond  an individual classroom, lab, library or school. Like a business, educational organizations have internal and external communications that keep things running. Server administration and IT department folks get included here, as well as teacher training and staff development projects.. Some possible issues worth exploring in this bigger-than-a-clasroom context:

  • developing professionalism (staff development)
  • student security and privacy
  • communication within the community
  • setting up or getting access to weblog servers within or without a school or district IT environment.
  • tools to use
  • getting sufficient bandwidth for cheap or free.
Conversation partners for this roundtable will include Dan Mitchell, Tom Hoffman, Jay Cross and Erin Clerico.

3:45 - 4:00 Break and "red eye" flight departures

4:00 - 4:45 Reflection on the day and 'What's next for eBN?'?
